Worldbuilding - Name That Town!
First topic message reminder :
Okay, so the Role-playing Thread was getting a little cluttered and I didn't want to overwhelm anyone with my verbosity so . . .
What's the name of our town? I've been calling it Testam but I think that's a stupid name. Are there any other suggestions?
How about Goscite? (Old English for ghost-city) What think ye all?

Town Name and Area Layout
I like "Goscite" for the town name... I 'hear' it as 'Gossit'...it almost sounds like a mineral, and very Olde English...
Dan, I like your map, how about putting a range of high, misty mountains on the east (so I guess the castle would be on a foothill as the terrain ascends) and a couple miles of rolling green hills on the west, the river winding through them to the sea- a proper harbor there, of course...who says we can't have it all?

Ok, you TOTALLY ripped that off of Lord of the Rings or Ranger's Apprentice.

And when she said that, I was thinking: oh my gosh I'm SO glad I wasn't there because my brain does not comprehend politics/economics. It will sizzle and fry ( with a cherry on top) if you try to even explain what they are to me. *gasp* I do believe I will be taking a class like that next year... oh well. just one more year.

Re: Worldbuilding - Name That Town!
Summary:
The town is in the mountains and the name of it is Gosite and you pronounce it however you want. We still have the ghostly-artifact-harvesting as their main industry but there is some fishing that goes on and the town is mostly self-sufficient and secluded. Amirite? Also, there is no mining, since we decided all the silver is really deep in Cair Castle's basement.
RT: Is Cair the name of the mage, then?

Re: Worldbuilding - Name That Town!
Yes, I had actually thought of that as I wrote the summary... Cair Something... like pick an Olde English name
or it could be just Cair
or it could be just Cair

Re: Worldbuilding - Name That Town!
I just did a digital equivalent of closing my eyes and poking my finger into an open book and came up with Granville. We could say that's his first name and just use Cair most/all of the time.

What's Red vs. Blue?
I think we should have an Arby's in Goscite, just for randomness' sake.

Re: Worldbuilding - Name That Town!
A really lame, stupid TV show made inside the Halo game. (Like, literally, all the characters are Spartan).Angie wrote:Sarah wrote:@Denis: I love Red vs. Blue! Only seen it three times.

I like the Arby's idea, we'll have it in a special inter-genre portal right next to the stacks of cans.

Re: Worldbuilding - Name That Town!
Now that we're talking about naming. I'd like to take this thread off-topic (don't worry, it's got big tires and looks good muddy) and ask a question: What do we want to name this site? I feel funny calling it "The Enders' Forum." I want something catchier, maybe something from the RPG? What do you all think?
Re: Worldbuilding - Name That Town!
ARBY'S!!!
Haha, ummm okay, seriously now, from the RPG..... the only thing I can think of is Halinpanas' Tavern, but that sounds kinda lame. Did that place have a name?

Mmm... you know, Angie, I kind of like the Tavern idea... I think _____ Tavern (or something to that extent) would make a pretty good name, despite the fact that is might give the impression that this is a sight involving alcoholic beverages.

Re: Worldbuilding - Name That Town!
How about . . . The Historium! What you don't like that? But think of the etymology. Heheh.
I seem to remember one of the characters calling the tavern Panas' Place. How about that? Ender's Tavern sounds good too, or just "The Tavern." Or how about "Cair Castle"? "The Warren"? Is there a name for the place where they found all the Argentum? Like "Argentorium"?

Re: Worldbuilding - Name That Town!
Panas' place sounds cool... hmmm. where does one look to get a snazzy name for a tavern?? There should be an online site for that
Or it could be named after a Greek deity... I just thought, shorten Panas, make it Pan I never thought picking out a name for a Tavern could be so much fun

Yeah, I can't say I have much experience in tavern-naming. Ha ha.
Side note: Apparently Caliope is the muse of epic poetry.

So... what are we gonna do with all those banners we made for the Enders? Or were we doing that just for kicks?

Re: Worldbuilding - Name That Town!
We were kinda doing it just for kicks but we couldn't really get together on anything so I'm gonna let it simmer in our minds for a while and maybe come back to it later.
